Interacting with toys to change or add meaning. It was fun and freeing to look through the boxes of objects, creating stories, scenes and reminiscing of childhood toys.

When looking at some small animal figures, I began to consider the items as a physical memory. To the child that owned them they’d have memories of play, to the parents these perhaps symbolise the transition of growing up. Memories can seem to float around in our minds, present whilst allowing you to see and continue to experience more. I’ve used this concept of presence to explore displaying the toys.

The trial and error of containers, location and water levels were key to match the concepts above. In the end I decided on clear, untextured jars for easy visibility. I also altered the water levels, depending on the item's weight, so it isn’t obstructed by the lip of the jar. For the final photo to document this outcome, a torch was shone through the base of another jar to create a rippled, brightening effect. Emphasising the water inside, and creating visual interest by how it interacts with the glass.
