ART420 | Deep Mapping through Colours

I began with a defeatist attitude towards the ART420 assessment, the dreaded interdisciplinary practice. So began at the natural point of remembering the themes of past lessons of Creative Reading.

Thinking about magic, change, memory, time, land etc. I’d love to say that this work was organised and planned.. the reality is that I tapped my way through my camera roll, remembering moments relating to each title. I found lots of overlap for chance, land and memory. Thinking about the discussed topics of distorting reality and accessibility. Landing on a more recent photo, I began laying down colours of paint. Using greys and whites to map out figures. Shapes over details. Emotions and memory are equal reference points of the image.

With each detail I focus on I’m reminded of different events. The weather, the words, the next steps- leading to more colours.. more thoughts.. more feelings. Stuck in a colourful loop of thought. I'm walking my thoughts through different places too, over the paper and in my mind. By the end of this piece I’ve made the connection between the key themes of “LAND” and “Chance” to the discipline of Deep-mapping (through colours).
