Performance and Art

Performances can be experimental. From attending an a talk by Sarah Blissett,

I learnt that performances are typically planned and structured whilst utilising found and recycled items.

Blissett mentioned collecting and using items to create minimal distraction. To mimic this in my own work I took photos/ used online images as a reference- specifically when working with the natural topic of flowers. No distraction is caused and they can be left in their natural location to be viewed by more people. The choice of a natural theme fits the direction I aim to take my work through, inspired by 3 related texts. Much like a performance I am working towards a loose plan/ structure.

Exploring the actions of performance was new and interesting. Choosing a word to develop representative actions was challenging and left space for interpretation of meaning. This performance allowed me to explore the process of taking up space whilst working and interacting with others. I believe the trial and error of developing this series of actions heavily relates to all areas of art from developing technical skills, such as workshop inductions to trialling new writing structures and research methods.
